Acne treatment with Biomedic
The experts at La Roche-Posay believe that everyone deserves a skincare
regimen formulated for their particular skin type. This is why they developed
Biomedic, a line of product which repairs, regenerates and rejuvenates skin with
special conditions. Like other La Roche-Posay product line formulations,
Biomedic conforms to two fundamental principles: high product standards and
dermatological safety. All Biomedic products are based on a rigorous formulation
involving thermal spring water combined with a minimum, but optimum
concentration of selective ingredients to address and treat acne.
Acne is a skin condition marked by inflammatory outbreaks consisting of lesions
and cysts that result from the blockage of hair follicles and pores. Your skin
is in a constant state of renewal and it completely replaces itself every 28
days. The process starts down in the lower layers of the epidermis, where new
cells are continuously forming. As these cells mature, they slowly work their
way to the surface, where after becoming depleted of moisture, they slough off.
With the skin of people who have acne, dead skin cells may slough off faster and
blockage occurs when plugs constantly form from these dead skin cells and sebum
(an oily substance secreted by the sebaceous glands). These plugs seal follicles
off and allow for the proliferation of the bacteria, P. acnes. Inflammation is
not uncommon when white blood cells respond to increased bacterial presence,
resulting in the formation of papules, pustules (pimples), nodules and/or cysts.
Acne lesions usually develop on the face, neck, back, chest and shoulders;
severe lesions can lead to permanent scarring. Although acne typically is not a
serious health threat, it can be a source of significant emotional distress.
Proper identification of skin type is the first step to successfully controlling
acne. Overly oily skin tends to be the hallmark of acne prone skin and it needs
to be kept in check. Here are some ways to care for your skin if you have acne:
- Clean skin gently. Use a mild cleanser such as Biomedic
Antibacterial Acne Wash twice a day. Do not scrub face and pat dry
with clean towel.
- Follow this with nighttime application of a drying agent to
control bacteria such as Biomedic Antibacterial Protection.
- Exfoliate regularly to prevent clumping of dead skin cells in
follicles. Consider an in-office micropeel performed by a licensed
La Roche-Posay professional. The MicroPeel is a safe and effective
procedure that can be customized to meet the needs of all skin
types. This unique 3-step process starts with dermaplaning or
using Biomedic Pure Enzyme to remove the dead cellular layers.
Next, an AHA solution is applied to the skin to help free pores of
compacted debris. Lastly, Cryogenic Therapy is performed to help
reduce inflammation.
Biomedic also offers an all in one 21-day intensive acne treatment
kit that cleanses, exfoliates and balances. Its three key
ingredients - LHA (lipohydroxy acid), salicylic acid and glycolic
acid - work in combination to control oil and bacteria and to gently
exfoliate without drying or aggravating skin.
